Hi! I’m Amy, a London-based home cook. I have always loved cooking and for the past four years along with my flatmates Emily and Sarah have hosted countless elaborate dinner parties, transforming our modest dining room into everything from a Christmas insane asylum to The MET Gala (a theme within a theme). Through these curated feasts for twenty-plus people, each with its own carefully planned menu and atmosphere, I found a love of telling stories through food.
But here’s the thing about cooking for twenty plus people: it’s not exactly a sustainable daily activity. I realised I needed another creative outlet for all these ideas bouncing around my head. That’s where this blog comes in, it’s a space where I can experiment with flavours and share my enthusiasm for nonsense dinner party ideas, without having to wash quite so many dishes.
I should mention like most competent cooks I never measure ingredients, I taste and adjust as I go along. Figuring out measurements has been challenging as it feels pretty unnatural for me, so please use these recipes as a guide. Ingredients and preferences do vary so always taste and adjust to your own palette.
Why “Blow Out Your Kyte”?
I came across this phrase whilst making a playlist for an East End themed dinner, it’s a lyric from an old music hall song called “Boiled Beef and Carrots,” the phrase “blow out your kyte” – a regional expression meaning “fill your belly.” I like to think it’s essentially the English equivalent of “bon appétit,”. The name resonated with me on multiple levels: it’s delightfully silly (a quality I value highly), it a nod to British food history, and it’s also a dish I have fond memories of cooking with my dad when I was growing up.
